Committee says payments on debt one cause of tax increase.

Residents who attended Monday's public hearing on the proposed $12.5 million municipal budget wanted to know where their tax dollars are going.

This year's budget, which carries a 10.3 percent tax hike, was introduced Feb. 13; the Township Committee will consider adopting the budget March 27.

Residents asked committee members to explain the $978,592 spending increase, which committee members said is being driven by increased debt payments and public safety costs.
