Historic potato barn is unsafe

After a number of efforts to restore the 18th century potato barn on Cranbury Neck Road, the Township Committee passed a resolution Monday for the barn's demolition.

The structure, which Committeeman Wayne Wittman said is crumbling, is presenting a safety hazard to residents, officials said.

"We can't really let this go any longer," Mr. Wittman said, adding that he has long been an advocate of saving and restoring the barn. "Somebody could possibly get hurt there. It's literally falling down. We don't want anybody to get inside. The floor is rotting away and it's just not in a good situation right now."
