| Why you ask? So the citizens of NJ get to decide this November if gay marriage should be legal, not the democraps in the state senate. |

What else should we vote on to determine if it is legal. Do you think we should vote on whether to allow African Americans can marry whites? Until the 1960's more than 10 state had laws against this. That was all overturned by a court decision, not a popular vote.
By the way if it were to pass by popular vote, I believe you would be the first in line to call for a court challenge.
By the way "democraps" is cute. I believe you have to be over 12 to post on this board. |

I will explain this using small words for you. In the 1960's various states had laws on the books outlawing marriage between blacks and whites. Had this been put up to a vote these states would have upheld these laws. The courts overruled this because it was considered a CIVIL RIGHT. I think of Gay marriage as a civil right. This is not playing the race card, it is pointing out that we do not generally vote on civil rights. By the way pointing out are history is not playing the race card, it is providing context.
On a side note, why are you so afraid of gay marriage? |

I think both sides have it wrong. In the eyes of the government, "marriage" is a contract. Perhaps, from a government perspective, all "marriages" should be "civil unions" or "civil contracts" to distinguish them from the religiously connoted "marriage".
Also, shouldn't any two consenting adults be able to enter into a contract, such as marriage, of their own free will?
Brothers & Sisters? Fathers and Sons? Why discriminate against the civil rights of those who wish to enter into a contract with a family member?
On a side note: Why are you so afraid of the will of the people?  |

Surprisingly, we have stumbled into agreement. I personally believe marriage is a religious commitment. Your church may or may not recognize gay marriage. That is a religious issue. I think the state should only sanction civil unions, gay or straight.
On a side note. I am not afraid of the will of the people. I just don't know of any civil rights that were decided by popular vote. Civil rights are just that rights. We typically don't vote on rights. |

Hilarious. It never fails to amaze me that people like you are arrogant enough to believe that they should get to have a say in whether or not anyone other than themselves should get married.
I am a woman. I'm married to a man. In a church, even! Allowing gay people to get married does not threaten the "sanctity" of my marriage one iota. Does it threaten yours? Why? How? How are all of the marriage minded gay people out there a threat to you or your family, and what on earth makes you think you deserve the right to vote on it?
Why don't you worry about what goes on in your own home and bedroom, less so about TEH GAYS! Your husband/wife will thank you for it. |
