At the TC meeting last night, it was raised that there is concern over the House Ways and Means committee's approval to remove the ability to deduct state income and property taxes.
While the standard deduction would increase, it would mean a tax increase for most homeowners in Cranbury.
The Township announced that they will be passing a resolution along with other towns in NJ asking our federal representatives to oppose this change. It is essentially a gift to the mid-west where income, property values and taxes if being deducted would not be as beneficial as increasing the standard deduction.
The TC asked that Cranbury residents also reach out and ask our representatives to oppose this part of the income tax revision.
To be clear, this is not a Republican or Democrat issue, but one of ensuring that residents are not being forced to pay more taxes to support others. Essentially, by removing the tax deduction the federal government would cause double taxation. First, we're taxed by the state and local authorities, but the Federal government would act as though we retained that money and thus make it subject again to being taxed.
So please do complain to your elected officials over this change. |
