An interesting article about our president:

The dunce

His former Harvard Business School professor recalls George W. Bush not just as a terrible student but as spoiled, loutish and a pathological liar.

By Mary Jacoby

Sep 16, 2004 | For 25 years, Yoshi Tsurumi, one of George W. Bush's professors at Harvard Business School, was content with his green-card status as a permanent legal resident of the United States. But Bush's ascension to the presidency in 2001 prompted the Japanese native to secure his American citizenship. The reason: to be able to speak out with the full authority of citizenship about why he believes Bush lacks the character and intellect to lead the world's oldest and most powerful democracy.

"I don't remember all the students in detail unless I'm prompted by something," Tsurumi said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "But I always remember two types of students. One is the very excellent student, the type as a professor you feel honored to be working with. Someone with strong social values, compassion and intellect -- the very rare person you never forget. And then you remember students like George Bush, those who are totally the opposite."

I've heard this prof. on the radio discussing his amazement at how W got to be president of the US. He said maybe "president of an oil company", but NOT much beyond that. It's very telling about the complacency and short attention span of a large segment of the American electorate. The only time that bush made ANY money was when he did that Texas Stadium deal, ALL at the taxpayer's expense. Any time he tried to make money in the oil business, he went belly up and had to get bailed out by Daddy's friends and relatives.
It's a shame that some people don't pay more attention. Maybe, they're too busy reading those idiotic Left Behind books!!!

People have a demonstrated ability to believe what they want to and ignore facts that don't support their belief system. When Bush ran for office, he established himself early on as the conservatives choice, aligning with religious leaders, etc. There were plenty of reports back in 1999 and 2000 about his past but the people determined to vote for him didn't care. There were the pictures of him drunk, the old friends talking about his cocaine use, the history of how he got inot Harvard because of his dad and how he was a lousy student and yeah, the fact that he had accomplished nothing in terms of a career except what was handled to him with family money. And his only political office prior to being President was as Governor of Texas, a mostly ceramonial position with no real authority (and therefore no ability to screw things up). And even that was handed to him on the back of the popularity of his father in the State and his money. The guy has never earned or accomplished a thing in his whole life. But it didn't matter.
