CRANBURY — Ready to close the book on another successful summer reading program, the Cranbury Public Library’s staff is preparing for the final chapter with its first Library Fest.

”It’s the culminating event,” said Marilyn Mullen, director of the Cranbury Public Library. “We thought this was a good way to celebrate the library and get together with neighbors.”

The event will be held outside of the library, 23 N. Main St., on July 30 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Event planners are asking all residents to mark their calendars for the free event, which will feature entertainment, food and beverages along with a raffle.

The library is planning to offer a paperback book and puzzle swap for residents who may want to switch out their used items with the library’s own selected stock, Ms. Mullen said.
Along with games like a hopscotch and jump rope, a professional artist will be on hand to demonstrate the art of chalk drawing for children, she said.

In addition, Selkow, will perform a sample of acoustic rock infused with hip-hop, Ms. Mullen said.

Adults who have finished this year’s summer reading programs will also have their chance at winning gift certificates to the Blue Rooster Café and Bakery, scheduled to open on Main Street this fall, Ms. Mullen said.

Staff decided to host Library Fest after seeing the success of its first annual family summer reading program.

”More people signed up than last year and because it’s family-oriented we have a lot of adults participating,” she said.

Ms. Mullen said the event will move indoors if it rains.
