TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

A meeting of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board was held in Town Hall on July 15, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER

With a quorum present, Rosemary Seghatoleslami, Chairwoman of the Cranbury Township Human Services Board, called the meeting to order and acted as the Chairwoman thereof, and Kristen H. Hamilton acted as Recording Secretary of the meeting.

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE

Phyllis Bialor, Warren Perrine, Betty Conover, Marilynn Mullen, Marie Dey, Anna Johnson, Jay Hansen and Rosemary Seghatoleslami.

MINUTES

The minutes of the June 17, 2008, meeting were reviewed and approved.

WORK SESSION:

Room Improvements/Furnishings:

A refrigerator has been ordered and we are waiting for delivery.
It was agreed that the following items would be purchased:

Computer
Computer desk
Computer printer/scanner
Computer games
Games (Suduko, Chinese Checkers)
Digital camera
Wii Fit
Projector stand/cart
Podium
Magazine rack

After the above items are bought, the Board will decide if there is enough money to purchase a wide screen television.

At Christine Smeltzer’s suggestion, the Board again discussed if exercise equipment should be purchased. Due to safety issues, the Board decided against it.

Once the computer is purchased, the Board will inquire if internet can be installed.

Since one (1) of the long folding tables has disappeared, another should be ordered.

On-Going Programming:

Eleven (11) people attended the July 11th luncheon and games. This number does not include Board members.

Phyllis Bialor received information from Teddy’s for the August 8th lunch. Due to Teddy’s inability to deliver, it was decided to use Tiger’s Deli for the August 8th lunch. Phyllis Bialor will get information from Hannah and Mason’s and Chicken Holiday for future lunches.

A variety of ice cream treats will be purchased for the August 22nd movie.

Marilynn Mullen will provide the Secretary with information to prepare the Purchase Order for “More Notes”, who is providing entertainment for the September 20th program. Flyers will be prepared advertising the anniversary celebration and will be put in the Township employee mailboxes. Invitations will be sent to Rush Holt, Linda Greenstein, Bill Baroni, Peter Inverso, Governor Corzine and the Middlesex County Freeholders. Rosemary Seghatoleslami will order a sheet cake. A program will be prepared outlining events held throughout the first year and will include information on “More Notes”.

Anna Johnson suggested, since attendance at movies has been low, that something else be held instead – possibly game days.
Programming for 2009:

“Heads Up Seniors”, a social and educational program on brain injuries, will be the program at the January 9, 2009, lunch.

The Secretary received information from Arthur Einhorn, a professional pianist, on programs for seniors. The Secretary will obtain additional information.

Discussion –

The Board gave the approval for the Library to borrow the projector and possibly the Wii for an upcoming program.
Betty Conover will contact the Cranbury Press to see if it will donate a newspaper to the Senior Center.

The Board again discussed the possibility of hiring a part-time trained person to run the senior center utilizing the funds earmarked for Jan Bayern.

Betty Conover suggested asking other organizations, such as the Lions Club, Golden Agers, etc., if anyone is interested in serving on the Human Services Board.

Meeting

The Board decided to hold a meeting on August 19, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. to prepare for the first anniversary celebration.

ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:10 pm.
