Cranbury roads were flooded and residents' basements were wet early this week, as a spring Nor'easter brought heavy rain to the township and surrounding areas.
Cranbury School was closed Monday because of local flooding and parts of eight township roads were closed because of dangerous conditions, Police Chief Jay Hansen said Tuesday.
Sections of North Main Street, Dey Road, South River Road, Old Cranbury Road, Old Trenton Road, John White Road, George Davison Road and Petty Road were closed Sunday morning and through much of Monday, Chief Hansen said, adding that the closed areas were under at least 2 feet of water.
"We had a vehicle that stalled out on John White Road and was left there until the water receded," he said. "Also, one on Old Trenton Road, same situation."
All of the roads were reopened by Monday night with the exception of Petty Road because of flood damage to the road's bridge that needs to be repaired, Chief Hansen said. Township Administrator Tom Witt said he could not estimate the cost of the repair, but expects the bridge will be fixed soon.
