I found an old cesspool in my yard and need to have it abandoned as I am connected to sewer. Neither I or the previous owner knew it existed and it was only by accident that we found it. Does anyone know what the typical cost is to have it filled in? The tank is empty as I looked it the hole with a flashlight. It's at least 10' deep. Anyone have a recommendation on a firm to do the work?

You want to be sure that you document with invoices, photos and a brief report the work you are going to perform to fill in the tank/pool. buyers of your house may ask when you sell the place.

get it pumped out (J holm and son in Monroe-great local firm) then hire excavator to remove tank if there is one, recycle tank, and then back fill with stone and/or fill then top soil. compact well during backfill. you can ask holm who to use for this work. or call Fuessel pump and tank, slack ave, lawrence twp.
