Unrestrained vicious attack dog residing at 42 North Main Street Cranbury. A small 10 pound Yorkshire Terrier was attacked on Sunday morning while walking in front of 42 North Main Street by a large dog residing at the residence (possible mix breed pit bull). The Yorkie was bitten across the torse, lifted in the air, shaken and then dropped. The attack dog then circled around to come back for a second attack before being fended off. The attack dog was left on the front porch alone with no supervision and not on a leash The attack dog's owner stood there and did nothing. It was also probably not the first time this dog has attacked. The dog owner admitted this as well saying that electric collars and electric fences did not work for his dog.

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN WALKING YOUR PET IN FRONT OF 42 NORTH MAIN STREET!!!

I do not know. However, this was a "silent" sudden ambush on the sidewalk. Not on the property. There was no barking, no warning, no sound. Just a violent attack. Anybody could be at risk. Just be careful.

this post if good info to know, but I would strongly recomend that this be reported to the police. this forum will not reach all who may be at risk. letting the police deal with this matter is the only way to truly protect the public.

This is a faster way to let people know the potential threat to small kids and pets. The police will take a while to sort things out.

Taking all these facts at face value, this must be addressed with the appropriate authority. Children walk along that section all the time.

then do both, report it here and to the police. If the dog is viscious, this forum is only going to do so much. and, that may not be enough if the dog is as viscious as reported.

Is your dog okay?

If the owner admitted their dog is hard to restrain, what was their stated reason for leaving it unrestrained? I have a harmless dog but can't imagine ever having it unrestained in public. That just wouldn't be responsible.

Hopefully the owner will get a hefty fine and have to pay for your vet bills and maybe when it affects his/her wallet enough will start doing the right thing.

This is incredibly irresponsible and I blame the owner. To live on Main St and just say well it gets out and can't be controlled is poor. I have had a pit bull at one stage and let me tell you it was a very sweet dog, but like any dog it needed to be trained. If an owner is to lazy then they need to be held accountable.

I hope you did call the police. I hope you and the dog are okay and that the owner is taking responsability. I also hope that parents now know enough to be careful with little kids. God forbid that dog hurts a child.

.

Thank you for your response. However, we have already filed a police report and it has been turned over to the animal control officer who we also contacted.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your concern. Our Yorkie is still at Garden State Veterinarian Specialists in Tinton Falls. Her injuries do not appear to be life threatening. She has a fractured jaw and puncture wounds to her torso. She will remain at the Vet for at least a few more days.

The owner's excuse was that he "was not thinking".

Thank you again for your concern. However, this post was meant to be a warning to anybody else who may walk past that house.

Pit bulls attack car, rip off bumper with teeth
October 27, 2009 • 10:44 am
By Diana Fasanella

Arkansas animal control officers are searching for two pit bulls that ripped off part of a car’s bumper and fender with their teeth.
APB: Car-eating dogs on the loose

APB: Car-eating dogs on the loose. Yes, that's tooth-gouged steel.

Ima Jean Vervack of Fort Smith said her daughter called 911 when they discovered the dogs tearing apart her car Sunday around 4 a.m., according to ABC’s KERO Channel 23.

When police arrived they found the two pit bulls on the hood of the vehicle. As they approached, the dogs ran off. Weapon-drawn officers pursued the animals.

Just an edit to the original post. There is no positive ID that the attack dog was a pitbull. Just a possibility.

Could the original poster please indicate what, if anything, the police have or will do about this situation? I have a child who walks past that house every day on the way home from school. Here I thought my main safety concerns were cars and strangers. Didn't think of vicious dogs.

Also for the original poster, I'm not sure if you are leaving yourself open to a lawsuit for defamation of character by making public statements about this pet owner, esp. as you've listed the home address. I appreciate you keeping the community informed, but wouldn't want you to be sued for it.

I don't think the original post contains any "defamation of character".

The info posted here is probably already in the police report.

I do appreciate the warning about the dog. I hate aggressive big dogs not on leash; I'll hit them if they come near me.

I do not know the owner or what type of person he is. I am not taking issue with his character. Everything in this post is "FACT". Everything in this post is in the police report (and more). Everything in this post is on record with the animal control officer. Everything in this post is on record with the health department.

Nothing in this post is fabricated or exaggerated (maybe even a little understated).

I want to warn the community. My wife and I now sure wish that we knew that there was an unrestrained aggressive dog at that location. If I had said somewhere on Main Street I don't think that would have been as helpful or constructive.
