CRANBURY — A few weeks ago, Cranbury police charged several teenagers with underage drinking and possession of marijuana, and in light of these events the Police Department is advising parents to keep a close watch on their children, especially over the summer.
On July 25, at 9:35 p.m., after the park was closed, police observed three 16-year-olds in Heritage Park. After questioning the juveniles, police found that two of the three had small amounts of marijuana and pipes, and they told police they had smoked it earlier that evening.
The two juveniles were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and all three were released to the custody of their parents. The matters will be disposed of in family court.
In two earlier separate incidents this summer, summonses were issued for underage consumption of alcohol at underage drinking parties. About 10 individuals were charged in total, some local and some from out of town.
”Although the police, through their programs and the school through their health program, try to educate our children to the dangers and hazards of drugs and alcohol, our children are not immune to the temptations of experimenting with these dangers,” said Chief Rickey Varga of the Cranbury Police. “Parents need to remain vigilant and involved in knowing where their children are and what they are doing.” |
