Order Free Credit Reports, Then Cross Your Fingers

Today, residents of the Washington area and the rest of the East Coast can finally order one free copy a year of their credit report from each of the three national credit bureaus.

The annual free credit reports were mandated by Congress two years ago to reduce the incidence of identity theft by encouraging consumers to regularly check their credit histories for suspicious activity, such as a new credit card account that was never requested.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Once you entered your data, each credit agency will ask you some forms of question to prove yourself (e.g., mortgage amount, mortgage bank, ect) before showing your credit report.

After reviewing your report, you can dispute incorrect data online.

I found that my current address of the Trans Union report was changed to a Dallas, TX address!! What a surprise. I have been living in Cranbury in the past 2.5 years...

Now, I need to write a letter and enclose my utility bill to correct my address on file.
