There are almost 4,000 residents in Cranbury. Based on the logic by some posters on the board, if a small vocal group of library supporters push for more funding, that should not be considered a majority unless 2,000 supporters attend.

The reality is that the township would not support a new library if shown the facts asked the question. Unfortunately most people are not active and involved. A ballot resolution has been suggested for 10 years, it never happened. The library realizes that would not pass and their only way of getting the money is to bully the TC and residents.

The previous post is exactly correct. The Library Gangsters who have squandered our Library Tax dollars are hoping to get the TC to cave in and open the Municipal wallet. If the Committee members do any such monetary advance of funds there will be a huge outcry from the No Library folks and that will be the end to the resume building political positions held by some Committee members. The present Library Tax costs each average household approx. $275. per year now. Considering that most school age children have more data in their pocket phones do we really need a new Library!!!

The last poster makes an excellent point.

While there is still a number of people that enjoy and foster a more tactile appreciation for information through books and library services, there is an undeniable transition to digital information that, in essence, puts the entire world's "library" at the fingers of anyone connected to the Internet.

The question it begs is what happens, years down the road, when the vast majority of these "tactile" information folks are gone?

Will there still be a reason to support an information depository at whatever $$$ per year?

Maybe a better preparation for the future would be to take this $3 million and transfer the entire enterprise to a cloud-based repository that everyone in town could access from their homes.

It may turnout to be a better use of resources going forward.

The idea, I think, is more social in nature than informational and if there is a need for a community space, that could still be addressed in a different and more generic manner.

Obviously, the folks connected to the library want to see that entity continue into the future.

There is a love of physical books and the intent of free information being available in the community.

That said, there are ways with current technology to put all this information on the cloud so it is accessible for everyone....and you never have to worry about the book or item not being available because someone else has taken it out....or the hour you may need access based on the hours the physical location is open.

I wonder how much a project like this would cost...developing the servers...transmitting the information (books and so forth) to the servers...providing access to everyone in town...developing the infrastructure and manning "virtual librarian" positions to fill the needs....would compare to the present plan.

Just a thought.

P.S. With the $2 million already raised, that could buy every resident in town a $500 laptop computer.

There is still no announcement from the Township Committee that the Library will be a topic of discussion on 8/15.

The bottom line is that we really DO NOT need a new library. The technology and reference material in an 8 year olds pocket will far surpass any new library. The monument building, job security folks in favor of the Library are way off on the NEED for a Library. Its nice to build a "Monument" but the reality is we really do not need it! We have the community room in the school that WE paid for and should be able to use, The First Presbyterian Church has a well appreciated and very well used facility. The New Library is an unnecessary burden on present and future taxpayers.

Completely agree, as do most people I talk to. I still don't understand this isn't something that is voted on. We shouldn't have to go to a meeting and argue with our friends about our opinions.

Per the township committee agenda, there is not a discussion this Monday regarding in the library, only a report on the bidding project.

Cranbury Library Report on new Library Ms. Kirstie Venanzi, President, Cranbury Public Library Board of Trustees will give the Township Committee and public an update on the recent bid process for the new library.

I may be wrong but I am suspecting that the last comment came from someone who does not regularly attend our meetings. The library discussion is listed under the heading as a "work session." If you attend our meetings, that generally means that someone makes a presentation and then there is first a discussion among the TC members and then an open discussion on whatever the topic is. There is opportunity for anyone in attendance to present their opinion, ask questions and be heard.

To a broader point, even if the topic that interests you is not on the agenda, the meetings always have time for anyone who wants to bring up a topic, concern, suggestion or complaint to do so. I can comfortably speak for all five of us in that we welcome any input we get , as long as its presented respectfully.

So, if interested in anything on the agenda or any other issue, we urge you to come to our meeting and be heard. Note that this online forum is not the place that we go to in order to gather what we would consider relevant input on our decisions. So if you want us to understand your position, you have to talk with us. Hope to see you on Monday. - Susan Goetz

It is under a work session.

That means that the library will present. Then the residents who are interested can raise their comments as the TC will respond if appropriate.

This forum is relevant and read by many people in town as well as TC, as acknowledged by comments in a post above by Ms. Goetz, and other TC's in the past. TC is listening. If we can't attend meetings we shouldn't be deprived of the information that's being discussed. Township meeting minutes never give a complete picture of what actually takes place, so everyone's candor on this board is very much appreciated. Responding to the library comment above, I'm sure everyone in town would be interested in the recent bids for the library and who the bidders are, and the costs of the bids. Will this information be available on-line or will we get it from someone who will post it here?

I really do not want the TC using this board to make a decision and per ms. Goetz they do not. The view could be 1 person or 20, all Cranbury residents or none.
