Has anyone had any experience with response times from the Cranbury Volunteer Rescue Squad? Does anyone know why the 911 system does not work properly? If you are a block and a half from the Rescue Squad should it take 20+ minutes to get assistance? If the Squad is on call should they be taking their breaks in Monroe?

Honestly no one cares how long you have to wait for an ambulance. It’s a dead topic.

Only solution is a paid ems service 24/7. Surrounding towns have done it. It’s not a new idea, just a change for our town due to the increase in calls.

Does anyone know how expensive that is? It would be in the millions—new equipment, salaries, benefits, building, etc...

This is an important topic. Perhaps our needs as a community have evolved, or will evolve in such a a way that a paid EMS is the best option. Such decisions should be periodically reviewed for the good of the community. So let’s have a real discussion about this instead of trying to score political points.

What are average response times in Cranbury?
How do this compare to other communities?

What is the volume of calls in Cranbury? How are these calls segmented? How does this compare?

What sacrifices are people in Cranbury willing to make to pay for the change? Are we willing to let go of the stand alone library? Or the added traffic police? Or do we expect a paid EMS to be paid for by a straight up tax increase?

These are the kinds of questions that need to be discussed as part of a serious effort to change the status quo.

Secretive meetings, emotional public testimony ambushes and anonymous posts seem to demonstrate this is a political issue and not a community issue.

If you really believe this is important, I challenge you to get involved, do the work, invite others to join you and conduct your process in the open.

Well thought out. I would add that in 10 years time, we may also need a paid Fire Co. and may need a larger police force. We'll have the homes on the Protinick property, more warehouses and more affordable housing that takes resources.

A paid fire co could be extremely expensive as Fire is 24 hours with at least 4 people on shift at a time plus the officers etc...So you're talking millions for First Aid and even more for Fire with a police level budget.

If we want to keep taxes down then people need to volunteer for these organizations. Not blaming anyone for not volunteering doing so, just that if people volunteer then the coverage issues all go away.

I personally think we're on a cliff. As the TC has shown recently there is a lot of long term debt on the horizon and we have potential large expenses that are operating expenses. Yet, a lot of residents are focused on the nice to have items they individually care about like a library, more fairs, a CRC, etc...If we start funding all these nice to have items, then we won't have money for the must do items without massive tax increases.

Paid ems service will pay for itself in 6 months time. Only thing will be start up costs but the township can recoup those costs within months.

If that was the case then the Squad would have gone paid 24/7 don't you think and they would also be well off not needing the donations.

The squad is very well off, however they are private and therefore need not disclose there finances. But I would think a friendly neighborhood squad made up of our own towns people and dedicated volunteers, would want to be transparent and share there books for all to see.

What are you talking about? How would going from a volunteer to a paid EMS “pay for itself”? Thats going to have to be one heck of a bake sale!
