Board eyes tax hike
3.3 percent increase readied for April 18 election
Despite cuts to proposed capital projects and increase in the use of reserved funds, proposed spending increases for the school district could still lead to a 3.3 percent hike in school taxes for 2006-2007.
The Board of Education introduced a preliminary $15.7 million budget on Tuesday with $14.4 million appropriated for operating costs and $273,000 for capital projects, including a new roof over the auditorium. The budget also includes $862,552 for paying debt service and $166,962 from state and federal grants that the district receives for specific programs. The spending plan is less than one-tenth of a percent larger than last year's budget.
