Mayor's Update - February 27, 2024

Dear friends and neighbors,

We had a busy TC meeting last night! Our police chief, Michael Owens shared an impressive police report indicating our law enforcement officers are continuously busy in Cranbury. On traffic stops alone, they reported almost double the activity from last year. As the weather warms up, be alert for the mobile speed signs in town!

TC member, Michael Ferrante led us in a presentation entitled “De-Mystifying Local Government,” where he talked about how our local government runs. In attendance were boy scouts and their leaders who utilized this tutorial as part of their civic education. Additionally, we were treated to a presentation by Board of Health Chairperson, Laura Zurfluh, who also chairs the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign. She illuminated the great work members of the MWC and the many activities they conducted for Cranbury Residents, including nature walks and exercise programming, and she highlighted an online tool called the city health dashboard that contains social and health metrics specific to Cranbury. The MWC is looking for more volunteer members!

During our meeting, we had work session with our Shade Tree Commission. The State has new guidelines for the storm water renewal permit that include the adoption of a tree removal/replacement ordinance. Chairperson Kathy Easton and the commission are working on an Ordinance that will set guidelines on the removal of trees. Shade Tree’s goal in Cranbury is to encourage a tree canopy of 30% as our contribution to responsible and sustainable existence.
