Presbyterian Church flea market to raise money for Katrina victims.
"There are many uncertainties in the world, but one thing I am sure of is that as long as there are people like you, we never have to feel alone."
Those heartfelt words, which came from a Mississippi woman whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, were in a handwritten letter addressed to Carol Kientz, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury.
In the letter, the woman recounted the tragic tale of losing her home, her belongings and her husband. But thanks to the kindness and generosity of families from the Cranbury congregation, she has not lost her faith.
After the hurricane, members of the First Presbyterian Church reached out to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, Miss., and became pen pals with more than 50 families who had been affected by the hurricane.
Since January, the members of the church have sent food, gift cards, clothes and money to help the families begin to rebuild their homes and their lives.
In an effort to continue the support, the members of the First Presbyterian Church will be having a flea market in Fellowship Hall on May 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Members of the church have been bringing in items such as clothes, toys, games, household items and other miscellaneous trinkets to be sold at the flea market. All of the proceeds will go to help the families of the sister church in Mississippi.
