Wow.. So we live within a few short miles if 3 of the 45 dog parks in NJ. If, then the logic for the project under consideration is that they need to be within walking distance, we will need several. Either way, this would make us the dog park capital of NJ! TC considering a dog park as refuge for those who break our laws is negligent and suggesting that it is not a good use of our police is disturbing. Neighbors: please do not be dissuaded by our TCs sentiment that it is "unfortunate" to get our police involved in such matters. My young children have, on several occasions been approached by unleashed dogs and my spouse has been shy to say something or call police. Don't be! This is a matter of public safety. We should not have to trust our safety to the disposition of an animal or their owners judgement. The original poster started this post not because she was afraid of dog poop in her yard, but because she, as my spouse, felt unsafe! This is exactly why we have these ordinances! I called plainsboro/ cranbury court and police and they confirmed that a summons for violating this results in a court appearance and actions (including fines). Please don't be shy or dissuaded to use police for this matter and don't let a TC meet decide for you what should make you feel unsafe. It is what ploice are there for! Use them to enforce and the behaviour will stop and you will feel safe. If you don't, the actions will not stop until a tragedy occurs.
Technically they still cannot run around not on a leash, even there in the preserve. But who is going to enforce it?

For all practical purposes, the Cranbury Preserve has become the unofficial dog run here in Cranbury
an unnatural nature preserve! yes?

My neighbor has had issues with their invisible fence once the wire got chewed by some animal the second time the dog got out chasing a squirrel and appeared it was afraid to go back in. From his point of view he is concerned over the safety of his dog getting loose. I had to place boards around my fence as the dog would dig under and get loose. In those circumstances there is a ton of worry about the harm that could happen to the loose dog and I am sure from others seeing a loose dog. Serving a ticket in that scenario to me doesn't make sense as there is no intent.
If a dog is running loose in a yard with no invisible or hard fence and leaves the yard or in a park that is a different story and I would expect the officers to issue tickets.

No --- the promo should be "Cranbury's Most Wanted Mutt Owners". Noboday at the township level takes this seriously. While walikg my leashed dogs I have been attacked by two dogs that were "restrained" by an Invisible Fence" at two different times. On the second occasion I called the police. The police came and spoke to the owners but took no action. The dogs still are a menace and now I can no longer walk my dogs down that street!Warnings just don't get the job done. Its about time the township took a stand and stops pussy footing around the dog issues.

If a group of residents want to buy land and maintain a dog park I am okay.
However, I don't want a dog park if it means Public works has more work to do and this creates a cost to us.
Also, let's be honest. Cranbury is not a condo or apartment town like Plainsboro or Jamesburg. Most residents in Cranbury have yards and dogs can run in them. Dogs are not kids they don't need social time with other dogs. Having shown dogs and been involved with breeders I find dog parks controversial. In a town like Cranbury it's purely for adult social gatherings. In a town like Plainsboro they are a necessary evil as many residents don't have a place for dogs to run and play.

Dogs need a place to run free!
A doggie park could provide a safe place so they can run and the residents could be very safe.
Needs a no leash fenced area they can play as well for non aggressive dogs so they can run free.
If the animal was not penned up in the house all day some of those incidents I have been reading here about animal attack might not have happened.
That is tortorous on an animal to do.

We've got tons of open land, and a town full of big dogs that need to run.
At the end of the day, we've all got to be responsible for our actions. This includes taking responsibility for whatever problems our off leash dogs cause, including having them put down. We dont need one size fits all laws for every single isolated incident.
Working/herding dogs gotta run. It's in their blood. I'm not stopping, sorry!
Work on your recall training folks!
Get a large yard then and fence it so your dog can run free. Or take them to existing dog parks, there are plenty in the area. As you said, people have to be responsible for their actions. That includes not taking on getting a working or herding dogs if you aren't prepared for the commitment to find legal means to exercise them. Breaking the law by taking it off leash on public property is not taking responsibility.

And these tactics from the very group that labels those who disagree with them "trolls".....the hypocrisy is deep here.
