"It certainly hurts us to leave something that we loved so much. But we're also excited to move in a different direction." <br /> Ms. Watkins and her daughter-in-law, Ms. Kervan, opened the store, located at 79 N. Main St., in October 2002. It replaced Champagne Taste, a clothing boutique, which closed in 2001. <br /> "We had a lot of support from the town," Ms. Watkins said of the store's opening. "It was really an exciting adventure and we really thought it would be good." <br /> And it was, Ms. Kervan and Ms. Watkins agreed, saying business has been good and the store is only closing because they would like to pursue new avenues. <br /> Ms. Kervan said she'd like to concentrate on spending more time with her family. Ms. Watkins, who has been a lifelong resident of Cranbury, said she and her mother are selling their house and looking to relocate. <br /> "We're kind of thinking about where we're going," Ms. Watkins said. "We're not sure. So, it's time to start things new — start fresh." <br /> Ms. Kervan said they don't know what kind of business will move into the downtown spot currently filled by the Cranbury Gift Shop. <br /> "That's up to our landlords," she said. "We don't have any control over that." <br /> Starting today, Friday, the store will begin its big closeout sale. Ms. Watkins said she hopes all the items will go, adding that customers planning to do some Valentine's Day shopping there should not change their plans. <br /> "We will have fresh, chocolate-covered strawberries for Valentine's Day," she said. "There'll be a lot of things on sale, but people can still come in and have their Valentine's Day candy." <br /> The owners said they will look back at their time in the Cranbury Gift Shop with a smile and a tear, remembering the memories they've had and the relationships they've built. <br /> "We have some very loyal customers," Ms. Kervan said. "These people start out as customers and become friends." <br /> Ms. Watkins said she wants everyone to look at the store's closing in a positive light. She said she and Ms. Kervan are glad to have gotten the opportunity to run the store and are thankful for all the support they've received through the years. <br /> "The town was wonderfully supportive of the store and it was terrific," she said with a smile.
