I have been thinking about this answer for the last three days. First I would like to again thank all the people who came out to help set up. It is a wonder how we pulled this off in one day, I couldn't have done it without you guys so thank you again! Second, thank you for those who did bring food it is greatly appreciated especially (you know who you are) that brought several cases, and my friends who I know brought a lot you made a difference! Now to answer the question about donations. I am great-full for anything that we received because even a little will make a difference. Am I happy, NO, I am very disappointed in the donations this year. We ONLY collected one large storage bin full of food and $49.00 for the food banks (this included the 6 cases that were donated by one person so that took up a third of the bin!). When I put in months of work preparing and the $ that we personally spent we would hope that an event of this caliber and the 100's of people who attended we should be able to collect 10x the effort. Not even near it in fact just the $ I spent to make this even happen (not even counting my time) I could have bought much more and given the food banks more than what was collected. We "hope" that for those who came through and did not get a chance to donate will bring what they can. Again we are thankful for those who did.
I have to disagree with the previous post. While I know that not everyone might be carrying around canned goods on Halloween I don't think it is too much to ask to come back with some canned goods after that night. If you went and enjoyed all the work that Keith and his family put in to this then the right thing to do would be to bring a donation. I really hope that it doesn't get to the point where he needs to charge money. Is two weeks not enough time to drive by and drop something off? I went home that night and filled up a bag with goods and went back. The attitude of "I already donate to other causes, so I don't need to donate this" doesn't make much sense to me, but I guess that works for you. I just don't understand taking the time to write up a big response to basically say that you won't donate and you don't feel bad about it.
My comments were meant to provide insight into why the level of donations did not meet Keith's expectations. In short, if you're having a fund-raiser, focus on raising funds. If you're having a fun-raiser, have fun and let the chips fall where they may.

Keith,
I have enjoyed your Christmas spectacular for years and donated generously each year. This year is the first time we visited the Halloween Spooktacular. We enjoyed it very much and appreciate the hard work and investment of you and your neighbors.
That said, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, however, I don't see walking around with canned goods on Halloween. I also think there is a good chance that I will forget or not get around to bringing canned goods before November 15th. I won't feel guilty about this because, like everyone else I know in Cranbury, I already donate a lot of time, money and food to charity.
I understand you may be disappointed. You want to help the food banks feed hungry people and to some degree the donations are a barometer for the community's appreciate for your hard work and investment. However, I would imagine your true motivation is to simply do something nice for the community with the side benefit of filling food pantries. Otherwise, to your own earlier point, there are a lot more efficient ways to help the food banks.
As a suggestion for future years, I think you'd be better off "selling" tickets for a suggested donation. A lot more people will put a couple dollars in their pocket than walk around with a can of soup.

Christmas Last year was very good! It started off very slow but in the end we collected more than the previous year.
I do understand your point and agree. I did have in the newspaper and the pamphlet that was sent out with the kids that we would be collecting until the 15th of November. Hopefully many like you will be catching up over the next few days!
Thank you again!

I understand your disappointment. I would be curious to know how the food collection went last Christmas, when many people arrive in their cars to see the display. The Halloween one is hard because the kids are excited to get out the door, and at least for me, the last thing on my mind was bringing canned goods with me to carry door to door until we made it to your house.
That being said, I am happy to drop off something now. How long will the bins be out?

That was a very refreshing post for this Bulletin board. Our family had a great time last night walking around town and then going to the Shaws, it was wonderful! We were amazed how Keith put this together, we heard he was not able to set up until Sunday? How did the donations collections go?

I would like to take a break from the bickering on this site to say thanks again to Keith and his family for putting on this display last night. This is the kind of thing that makes Cranbury great. It was the perfect way to end the night of trick or treating and my son said it was the best part of the night. I hope this becomes a tradition because I can't wait for next year. I hope everyone got a chance to stop by and make some donations.

Thank you for all the kind words! We have had some people ask if we take cash donations for the charity. Yes, if you prefer to give a cash donation that is fine we have a donation box set up at the entrance. Remember as always we only ask those who are able to donate and 100% of all donations food or cash goes to charity. Thank you again and we are looking forward to tonight!!

We would love to have the lights, they will go to great use! Any LED lights can be used within our display! You can drop them off on our back porch or let me know where to pick them up. Thank you! Keith
