You mean the Republican candidate is a woman who worships the pope AND flies the Cuban flag? What the heck is going on over there at GOP Headquarters? Laughing

I think the issue of the dam and the long term health of the lake are related, but separate issues. One is more of an engineering project, and one is more environmental. Both are outside my realm of expertise, but I am glad there are people with the knowledge and experience to handle it. I don't think repairing the dam will fix 100% of the issues with the lake. Also, the dam repair will be a large project and I would appreciate having someone on the Committee with an environmental background who can provide their input and expertise as the project progresses. I also appreciate the fact that Susan is addressing real issues (lake, library, etc...).

I appreciate Karen's petition for 130, but like you said it was already going to be fixed. She seems to have made 130 and garbage collection her main issues, both of which aren't an issue. 130 was already decided and garbage collection is being put to a general vote, so my vote matters as much as her's.

REALLY!? The postcard I received from Karen was red, white and blue, which are the colors of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Odd election year
PostPosted: Fri, Nov 4 2011, 8:11 am EDT    Post subject: Re: Received both TC candidates' postcards today

I appreciate what Susan can do. However, based on attending meetings it appears the dam will be resolved before next year. It seems each candidate has tried to grab their own issue, but I find it interesting that the issue grabbed is resolved.

Karen worked on Rt 130, but the issue was already decided to be fixed. No one in the county ever told Karen it seems.

Susan talks about her experience and help on the dam, but based on the last TC meeting a decision will be made prior to Jan 1.

Meanwhile we have actual issues in town loss of property values translating to a lower tax base and thus lower revenue to cover our expenses. COAH and 130D are still there. The parking issue still remains. The Planning board may change with Win not running and a new master plan approved for Jan 1 so that will impact the town.

Those are just a few items. It seems to be different they each grabbed an issue, but that issue ended up resolved prior to their joining the TC. This is really an odd election year.

Ms. Goetz has made the dam an issue that she states she can help. I sat in the last township committee meeting where an engineer gave a report on types of dam configurations to use and to give our guidance to the county who will building the dam. The committee decided on a size dam and spillway. The Mayor asked for public comment on the direction they were going. Several members of the public gave their input but Ms. Goetz, who was in the audience, did not volunteer to give any expert advice.

I looked at her web site today and one of the issues she discusses in depth is the health of the lake and the issue of flooding.

You probably will not see similar scenery in your lifetime (or my lifetime). I like it!

I have seen the town flooded before, not quite to this extent, but enough water in my basement to hate the thought of it. The postcard is a sorry reminder

I think that is the point... The dam and flooding is a major issue in town.

I really like the picture. Amazing shot really with the houses reflecting. It also highlights a growing problem in our town - the dam. It will need to be addressed pretty soon.
