I find it amazing that the BR Bakery was allowed to open with no parking. Its customers have made a huge change in the number of open spaces. During the middle of the day you can't find a spotdown there.
No parking? There is parking. There is parking on the street. If you cannot find a spot there, go to the PNC building. There is always plenty of parking there and it's only a tiny walk to the BR. It's a good thing that the spots are filled with people who are bringing in business to our downtown businesses. I agree with the person who suggested limiting the engineer's input. She has forced people to spend lots of money unnecessarily.
Bought a bacon egg and cheese sandwich from them when they first opened, and it was very bad. It was the same type of sandwich you would get from Wawa or Mcdonalds. I have not been back since.

Cranbury Bagel is a perfect example of a great small town business. They are family owned, have great products at very reasonable prices. We buy our cold cuts there twice a week for the kids (and my) lunches. You get Boars Head meat and cheese with the best part being the
prices are better than the cheapest shoprite brand.
They do seem to be struggling, I hope more people find out about them, it would be sad to lose another small business in town.

I agree with Market, the Cranbury Bagel Barn had delicious salads and their cold cuts are high quality and priced the same as the grocery stores. I hadn't been there for a while after a few lackluster experiences, but for the last month and a half have been going out of my way to go there. They really seemed to have worked out the kinks, and I have bought eggs and milk and even homemade breadcrumbs to make the most delicious meatballs with. And their whole wheat everything bagels are yummy!

The bagel barn sells eggs and milk. They gave a deli case and the salads are great.

I'd love a little store where we could buy healthy foods... local vegetables, organic milk, etc... as well as some take-out salads and dinner options. Some towns have stores with huge, fresh salad bars where you can pick up a variety of yummy healthy things on those nights when you don't have time to cook. I'd gladly give up having to drive all the way to Princeton to get to Whole Foods.
I also love the idea of a farmer's market... again, I'd be happy to not have to drive all the way to the Trenton farmer's market for local goods.
So go for it. Start a small business here in Town doing what appeals to you.
This is why stores don't last in this town. Stores like this are suited fine for Princeton Hopewell, but not Cranbury. Most people in Cranbury would rather eat at Teddy's or Cranbury Pizza. What this town needs instead of a organic milk store is one just like the old Cranbury Market.

Alas, I have a job that I love. But I can hope that somebody else decides to open the store of my dreams!

Quinn is correct. The Village Business District is poorly lit. Take a look at Town's like Princeton or Hightstown who have done very well with period street lighting. Then take a walk through our Village Biz District at night. If a business does not have exterior lighting, it is very dark, even at intersections. This is something the Town should seriously consider. At the same time, take a look at the trash in our public parking areas. There does not seem to be any program to keep the public parking areas, including street parking, looking nice. We are fortunate to have new businesses coming to to the Village, but we must create AND maintain better infrastructure to ensure that the businesses that are here stay, and that new ones join us.
What is this facination with street parking? It sounds like you have a vested interest in the use of public parking. Maybe you need your own.

It depends. Spotlights no thanks. Another street light on a pole no thanks either as the bulbs are rarely replaced. Old gas lamp lighting like Hightstown yes I am in favor. The lights are not bright enough to do anything other than illuminate the immediate area and make the village look better.

The truth is the Village is controlled by a select few individuals. The committee members all talk a good game of support but they [as usual] do nothing to really help make things better. I can recall going to one meeting and hearing Mr. Stannard talking about having a meeting with the business owners and even though they were not at the meeting called them a bunch of complainers. The attitude is always the same from the committee that can't shoot straight. They talk a good game before being elected but once they get in office refuse to communicate with the simple folk and all of a sudden become addicted to the power of the Ivory Tower. I know that we have a terrible reputation for being a hospitable, considerate, fair community from the municipal aspect and that needs to change. Every small business that tries to make Cranbury their home has had their pockets emptied by the "Professionals" that approved their applications to start a business. The "Professionals" who are assigned to the boards are bound to the other board "Professionals" made up of Lawyers and Architects, and Planners on these boards that have other interests and can behind the scenes direct buisness to each other. Its about time we took a look at the cronies on the boards. We need to get some new blood and new ideas in the approval system. It would be helpful to have new blood with some simple folk on the other boards as well. Nobody should sit on a board for 20+ years. Its unfortunate that so many people have been disheartened by the deaf committee members over the years. Their failure to listen and act respectfully to the public and businesses has led to the public apathy we have today. One other thing that might help is to advertise the board vacancies on the township website- there is no reason to keep those vacancies away from the public. We should actively seek new members and not rely on the good ole boy network which is how things are done today.
I think you forgot to take your medication this morning. I don't want to slam you, but this one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen on this board(that is quite an accomplishment)
First, "the village is controlled by a select few individuals", who pray tell are the few select individuals? I honestly don't know.
You seem to indicate there is this ominous power behind the Township Committee. I can assure you, you are mistaken. All of the boards and committees take their marching orders from the Township Committee. Part of the job of committees and boards is to take some of the heat off the township committee. They have apparently done this part of their job too well. Believe it or not, even initiatives that come from committees and are voted down by the Township Committee were actually initiated by the TC and sent to committee.
As to the Professionals and the need for new blood, I take it you are referring to the volunteers. The Law firm for the township was hired two years ago, the same with the engineering firm. The township planner has been here around 5 years. Our Township administrator has been here just over a year. It seems to me that the Township professionals are entirely made up of "new blood".
As for the volunteers, some of them have been on boards for a number of years. Mainly because no one else will volunteer. Plenty of boards and commissions have unfilled seats. I know people that would like to step down but can't find anyone to step up.
Lastly, I think your Stannard quote was a reference to the parking situation. There were solutions to the perceived problem that called on joint action by downtown business owners. Their complete inability to work together got them branded as, "a bunch of complainers." An unfortunate choice of words, but not without foundation.

It would help if you did some fact checking first.
Mr. Stannard no longer lives in town and has been off the committee for 2 yrs.
As a business association member I am actually pleased with how the town has started to change.
- we have TC members attending our meetings and listening to concerns.
- the master plan has opened up new opportunities on 130 and S main St.
- not ideal, but a new lot was installed on the west property to alleviate some parking issues by that end of town.
- the TC heard about fines for signage and has had public meetings to redesign the rules. The subcommittee said last week that they hope to complete this by April.
- there is a new engineer
All board positions and expiration dates as well as current vacancies are on the town website.
