I agree we probably couldn't simply set aside housing for all military families. However, COAH has a provision for "special needs" housing. At the COAH seminar in East Brunswick, COAH officials encouraged township planners to "be creative" within the spirit of the rules. I am not an expert, but if we were to provide a place within the development for counseling, as well as other military services, we could petition COAH to consider this "special needs" housing. I don't know if they would agree.
I agree, but so doing violates the COAH rules. It's showing a preference in an impartial system. For example, we can't use it for returning Cranbury residents, teachers, or officers unless they win a lottery.

Post subject: Families of the Fallen
There's an article in the Star-Ledger today about the Army trying to address the special needs of the families of soldiers killed in action. It would be great if Cranbury could set aside some of our affordable housing to help address the special needs of these survivors. COAH does have a "special needs" housing designation. I don't know if this purpose would qualify.
