Post subject: Re: What makes Cranbury great?! - 5 Reasons
What Makes Cranbury Great? My List, via Boulder, CO
1. The ability to explore the woods behind Shadow Oaks, bike over to friends' homes and meet some of my closest friends at age 6.
2. Living in a town where people generally care about each other.
3. Exposure to active teachers, community members and a father who were active in keeping education a priority.
4. The librarians. Cranbury's is small AND useful. (I saw that some people weren't happy to spend $600K improving it. I just wanted to mention, that if Cranbury is now 4,000 people, that's only $150 a person, which seems insignificant.)
5. Having women like Susan in my life. Susan is someone I have always looked up to, smart, understanding, kind-hearted, humble (which I greatly value). Susan has encouraged me throughout my life. She inspired me to pursue environmental causes, and I now find myself working on these issues at a software company in Boulder. I would not be who I am without having know Allison (Susan's daughter) and her family.

Trick or treating all around town tonight. Brings back great memories. Thanks too to Cranbury P.D. and CERT for making it a safe one.

TROLL. Please don't feed.
Best to just ignore negative or sarcastic comments and move on.
Cranbury's lack of any sense of irony or humor!

I need to add one more thing to my list - the Lions and PTO Pumpkin carving/decorating party at the school. I was able to take my grandson last night and what a party it was. Thanks to all of the volunteers. A great time was had by all.
(now what is this with the snow?)
That was a lot of fun. A bit crazy, but the kids all seemed to enjoy it. I love the small town activities like this.

Thank You Susan for the update. I know this snow is amazing but in October? Its must be due to global warming.

I agree with a lot of what Susan posted. I feel lucky to live on a street where in the winter, you have neighbors who help shovel or plow out your driveway. In the summer they watch each others houses while on vacation.
Our parks are second to none. The ballfields, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts. The Little League and summer programs that so much time is volunteered.
Cranbury might not be for everyone but compared to a lot of other small towns I think we have something special and I'm glad to be a part of it.

This is fun - in no particular order, and with an apology for the length, I would say:
Neighbors who help in a snow storm and make shoveling fun, take in garbage cans when you are sick or out of town, make awesome Margaritas and are wonderful friends
Friends who have become family
Family who may move away for a short time but return to raise their families
The Preserve (saw the beaver the other day! beautiful and peaceful place to hike)
Our open fields and vistas and the farmers who continue to farm (pretty cool to have to pull over so some monster farm equipment can make its way down Main Street!)
The Christmas and Halloween spectacular on North Main - all done for charity and as a gift to us (I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas)
Our school and our library - so much to say there!
Gill & Berts, Teddy's,Cranbury Pizza, Bagel Barn (welcome) Blue Rooster and the Cranbury Inn -different strokes for different folks but each one making Cranbury better
Our government, police and public works who work hard, know our names and truly care about this town and the people in it
Volunteers who give so much on boards, committees, commissions, clubs and groups
First Aid and Fire volunteers - I hope I never need you but believe me, we are all glad you are there in case we do
Our dogs
Fresh produce picked at Stultz farm (is there anything better than their corn?)
Brained Lake - summer kayaking, winter skating and year round critter watching
Our parks and fields
Cranbury Day, 5th of July, tree lighting and Memorial Day parade
I could go on and on, but its so clear we have an amazing and unique place to live. Thanks to all of you who make it home - Susan

Post subject: Re: What makes Cranbury great?!
When my wife and I first meet I lived in Plainsboro. Having lived in the area we always loved driving through Cranbury. One of Marina's dreams at the time was to live here and skate on the lake with our "future" kids. This past winter that dream finally came true, we went skating on the lake with Alexander and Kristopher! This is one thing for us that makes Cranbury Great.
To me, I always have a peaceful feeling just driving through town, seeing families walking their kids to school, there are not many towns in NJ for sure that you see that. I also enjoy just looking at the historic houses, and how well the majority of our houses are kept. This is what makes Cranbury Great!
There are so many events throughout the year that makes Cranbury Special (If I miss any...sorry)
The Drug Free Fair
Cranbury Day
Cranstock
Canoe races
Camping in the park with friends and neighbors while the kids watch a movie.
Lions Club Breakfast
Our Parades
The Helene Cody Race
Historical Society House Tour
The great organizations that make up our community from the Church's, Boy and Girl Scouts, Lions Club and the Historical Society.
Our Township committee, putting politics aside not only the present committee but the past ones have made us a town that people admire. Again putting politics aside, I think the current committee makes Cranbury Great!
Our Schools and teachers. I talk to many people outside of our community who know how good our schools are and what that offers for the future of our kids. This is what makes Cranbury Great!
Our parks, we have so many nice parks in town, they are what makes Cranbury Great!
Our Police, so many of them know many residents on a first name basis. That is what makes Cranbury Great! Our volunteer Fireman and First Aid squad protecting our families on their own free time. This is what makes Cranbury Great!
Our public works department, they do such a good job at keeping our town neat and clean. This is what makes Cranbury Great!
The many business that are in town. I am sure it is not easy running a business in such a small town but they all do their best and supporting them is what makes Cranbury Great!
The Cranbury Swim Club and the Catfish Swim Team. What a great place to meet new friends (both adults and kids). Just to be able to get off work at the end of a hot stressful day and then be able to have a glass of wine with a friend and cool off. This is what makes Cranbury Great!
I hope it is OK to "toot" my own horn but Halloween and Christmas Spectacular on Main Street. Not because of what I do but because of the 1000's of cans of food and $$$$ that people donate to the local food banks. This it what makes Cranbury Great!
From My Family, this is truly what makes Cranbury Great!
Our neighbors, I cannot say more and there are far too many names to mention who fall into this most important category. I know that we all have great neighbors but none are better than mine! From helping out with the boys in a pinch, trusting them to watch our kids or just having all the neighborhood kids playing together, this is what makes Cranbury Great! With the two major events I hold each year for charity I can always count on them to help. There was a mention about me in this thread (and for that I thank you, it means a lot) but without the help that so many of my neighbors give it really wouldn't be possible...
so it is my neighbors that make Cranbury Great!

The goal of this thread is to allow people to share what they like about Cranbury... please avoid negative comments. While everyone has a right to their own opinion, the question asked was "What makes Cranbury great?!"~ Let's stick to the topic. Thanks.
