I'll bet no one expected the Marriott to turn into section 8 housing either.

Last night, I passed the Sheraton I used to work at. It was a nice place in a nice town; a 4 story, brand-name hotel with a nice restaurant and banquet facilities. Now its a no-name hotel advertising rooms for $50/ night.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, the "Utopia Fantasy Suites" cost $89/night. I hear the hotel also hosts a charitable foundation for "middle and upper class" patrons who want to help poor, single moms.

Empty ugly hotel or super-cool liquor store, best within 10 miles at least.

I vote for the second one.

This is one of the worst statements and it always goes to a race or privilege card which annoys me to no end. No one is saying Sec. 8 is bad. No one is saying these families are African American, Asian or Caucasian, perhaps they all are Caucasian.

What the above posts are saying at a minimum the town should receive COAH credit for these rooms being rented. They should not be exempt from the COAH numbers.

The new hotel if it goes in will represent more issues and present a tax issue.

No one is also mentioning the fact that these families are in hotels. Not apartments, but hotels. So there is a danger issue for the families and kids, because there is no control over who rents a room next door to this family. If someone with a record or on a predator list were to rent a room that is fine and legal. However, that family unknowingly now has a real risk next to them. Since the hotel guests come and go it is a dangerous situation for that family as opposed to getting an apartment through Sec. 8 housing.

Great idea! Let's make Cranbury a rough and tumble place to prepare our kids for the "real world". It is never to early to get started whipping those little b@stards into shape. In fact, why bother sending them to Princeton at all. I'll bet we could save a lot of money by sending them to the new $185 million HS in New Brunswick. What's the down side? It's called Darwinism. The strong will survive.

PS I wonder if this decision will have an impact on real estate values?

Please read the previous posts on this thread that illustrate how this point is not accurate.

No need for you to jump to conclusions Smile , they unveiled their plans already.

While we should not get into whether a business can be a success, the issue I have on the proposed hotel is height and size. The developer has proposed the height and size to be just big enough to allow them to circumvent the rules regarding liquor licenses. My buddy owns a restaurant in NJ and hates hotels because above a certain size they are automatically granted a liquor license. They don't have to bid for them. So what happens is a hotel will be built a certain size that allows for a liquor license. Then the hotel can operate and do banquets etc...

I also believe that we should do any types of allowances through the master plan which is due for review this year or next so as to prevent the town from being inundated with lawsuits when one property is allowed and another is denied.

I find it interesting that the above poster mentioned the Hyatt hotel would negatively impact the view offered from main street in town, are you kidding?

Now if you are talking about the view from on rt 130, lets take into account the garage with the trashed cars, 18 wheel trucks that are cut in half, the ugly gas station, old buildings etc that can be seen from that corner.

If a project (any) is well planed with the architect and developer matching the project with the towns ideals and "landscape" it would certainly be better than what is there now. After all, this project is not on main street, it is mixed in with two other hotels and a business district.

Now lets talk revenue, the amount of money any project of this size can only impact our local economy and business many times over in a very positive way. This is a Hyatt, not a rent by the hour hotel. The people who generally stay in a Hyatt are Upper middle to upper class. I would think they would be people who are visiting their well to do Cranbury relatives, staying for business (spending company money) or here for a class reunion at one of our Universities. These people will walk our streets, spend money at are our local restaurants, our last clothing store, our TWO ice cream parlors, our pizza shop and our Chinese restaurant that certainly NEEDS the money.

Saying all of that, I will hold my judgment until I do actually see the plans. Before jumping to conclusions like so many have would it not make sense to see if the owner/developer has injected our town's look and feel into the project? IF THEY HAVE we should open our arms to a well thought out additions to our town.
