I saw this today and the idea may be a good one for Cranbury considering the TC interest in helping out Cranbury Businesses. More of the story can be read at: http://www.nj.com/news/times/regional/index.ssf?/base/news-18/1261464312229840.xml&coll=5 Committee striving to bring new business to Bordentown Tuesday, December 22, 2009 Beth Fand Incollingo SPECIAL TO THE TIMES Marguerite Mount believes that Bordentown City has it all. But that isn't enough, the lifelong resident says. Mount has always appreciated the mile-square city's accessible waterfront, walkable downtown filled with restaurants, galleries and stores, and variety of housing options just minutes from major highways. Now, as the leader of a new, volunteer Economic Development Committee, she wants to bring new business opportunities into the city -- and more customers in. It isn't that Bordentown City's downtown has been significantly hurt by the recession, said Mount, a certified public accountant who serves as a managing director of the Mercadien Group, a financial services firm in Hamilton. "We want to just continue to enhance it," she said, "and make it a better place to work, live and play." Meeting since June, the seven-member committee of local business, planning and government representatives has identified its goals for the historic city and is ready to get to work. Its five-point plan will involve gathering opinions from business owners about how the downtown should be developed, collaborating with Bordentown Township next door, keeping housing in good shape and intelligently marketing the city -- all under expert leadership, Mount said of the group created at the behest of the city's board of commissioners. To get the plan off the ground, the committee will identify concerns and ideas by surveying members of the business community, Mount said, noting that one goal will be to bring shops into town that may not be "destination businesses" but will generate customers for existing galleries and stores. In a city where restaurants are one of the biggest draws, she said, "you'd want to look at bringing in some more office, daytime workers, and not just relying on night traffic."
Apparently there is an old indian burial ground near the pin oaks property. Goodbye affordable housing, hello Pin Oaks Resorts!

How about we introduce casino gambling in Cranbury?
"We're closer than Atlantic City" could be our slogan!

Now this is forward thinking. Having this type of business would be great for our community.
http://cranburysauce.wordpress.com/
Not only will it bring outside tourist dollars to the community and increase our ratables through the local hotels, food establishments, liquor store, gas stations and real estate market it will enhance the look of our community.
Way to go Mr. Shaw, count us in for some canned food. I only wish I had thought of this idea my kids would have loved it!

A quote from the owner of this new small business boon:
“I always have all kinds of insane characters around my shop at all hours of the night,” he said. “Well one night last month a couple of my customers got more drunk and high than usual and decided to vandalize the whole neighborhood. And now the town’s blaming me for that.”
We have so many families and such a nice community...why would we want to attract drunk, high and destructive here? Win Cody must be out of his mind. I hope this is a joke or I misread the intention to relocate to Cranbury in this article.

Don't worry the guns and ammo store will allow the people to shoot each other.
I think it's funny how many people take the Cranbury Sauce for real. I actually had people asking me about the erotic expo at the Inn.
Relax :-)

Rateables, easier access as opposed to driving to a store, another business to help get involved in our town.

Lets get real. The economy today is not the economy of 30-40 years ago. Downtown Mom & Pop shops have to compete with nearby malls and online business as well. Small towns, especially those with hostile commerce boards, have THE most difficult time of all. The best option for Cranbury is a plethora of antique shops. Every town that i visit that has an antiques area seems to do quite well. Lafayette, Andover, a small section of Red Bank. and others, have an area of town which hosts several shops more or less clumped together. It's THE ideal solution for this small town's business needs. Forget about a deli, pharmacy, hardware store or bank. They're all out on the highways now to gain from the traffic. If you still want a small town atmosphere, you need small town businesses.

Thats a funny article. Too bad the powers that be think the residents are not serious about these problems. I cant wait for another year of delays and excuses. At least the hired professionals won't mind. They make out like bandits on every dollar we waste on indecision. Our deepest historical roots lie in poor planning and bad zoning. I say its time for some real action.
