A night to meet the candidates in Cranbury
Woman's Club to bring committee hopefuls together
Tuesday, October 2, 2007 4:17 PM EDT
By Marisa Maldonado, Staff Writer
CRANBURY — Before voters head to the polls in November, they can question the three candidates for Township Committee next month in a public forum.
Candidates’ Night, sponsored by the Public Affairs and Social Services Department of the Woman’s Club of Cranbury, will take place Oct. 9 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the cafeteria of Cranbury School, 23 N. Main St.
All three candidates — Democrats David Stout and Richard Stannard and Republican Art Hasselbach — have confirmed their participation, event organizer Bobbie Marlowe said.
The three candidates are running for two open seats in the Nov. 6 election. Mr. Stannard has served since 2001 and was the township’s mayor in 2005. Mayor Stout has been on the council since 2004 and was elected by the Township Committee in January to serve as mayor this year.
Mr. Hasselbach did not run in the June primary, but entered the Republican ticket after receiving 25 write-in votes. He served on the committee from 1997 to 2000, when he lost a bid for a second full term.
Each candidate will have five minutes to present his platform, which will be followed by an hour and a half of questions from the audience, Ms. Marlowe said. Taxes should continue to be a hot topic, she added.
