Cranbury tweaks Master Plan

By Maria Prato-Gaines
CRANBURY — The Cranbury Planning Board unanimously approved revisions to the open space portion of the Master Plan on Oct. 4.
The proposed changes include placing restrictions on nighttime lighting in the fields, realigning the entrance to Millstone Park and requesting lane stacking on Old Trenton Road, a clarification concerning public use of parks and a notation that recreational scheduling should be flexible for additional sports.
One of the Planning Board’s goals with the changes is to keep nighttime lighting to a minimum.
Township Planner Richard Preiss said the restriction is meant to maintain Cranbury’s rural feel.
”(Residents) do not want that lighting and that glare,” Mr. Preiss said. “They want to continue being a rural community.”
In addition, Mr. Press said, the Planning Board added two other revisions primarily concerning the roadways. One revision included realigning the driveway of Millstone Park with Washington Drive, Mr. Preiss said.
Committeewoman Pari Stave said the Township Committee is on board to request that the county add two left-hand turning lanes to the portion of Old Trenton Road that intersects with the entrance to Millstone Park and Washington Drive.
”Old Trenton Road is very wide,” Mr. Preiss said. “Right now cars pass on the side, where they shouldn’t be.”
