The Cranbury school board members say they are waiting for the rules of the game before pitching a 2007 school budget.

School officials were planning to introduce a 2007 budget Tuesday, but instead decided to introduce it March 6 and hold a public hearing March 27. Voters will get their say on the plan at school elections April 17.

Cranbury School Business Administrator Carolyn Eversole said the district is waiting on pending legislation, including what a proposed 4 percent cap on the total amount to be raised for taxes could mean for the budget, as well as the amount the district will receive in state aid.

Board members said they would have a better idea about figures in the days following Gov. Jon Corzine's state budget address, which took place Thursday. Aid numbers were expected to be released to school districts early next week, according to the state Department of Education.
