Going into the debate last night we had one goal and that was to ensure that our neighbors and residents knew we would be approachable, concerned about our town's actions, and that we believe in open government. To that end we wanted to provide confidence on five core areas: <br /> <br />1) We have a plan and a desire to work with residents in an open manner and with communication across all boards. We believe the Board of Ed and Township Committee must have an open flow of information with monthly updates to the TC made by the TC's BOE laison on areas of concern or work flow process. This process or a similar process is already being done with Police and Fire in town. It makes sense to do so with the BOE. We need all boards to support each other. <br /> <br />2) We are concerned about Municipal and School consolidation. We will work with a bipartisan approach, but also hold officals of both parties accountable to Cranbury's interests. <br /> <br />3) We will take resident views into account when making decisions. It may not be popular to make a decision at times; but we will be willing to discuss our decision making process. If we're discussing major 1 million plus discretionary purchases then we encourage on the use of on cycle referendums just as Win proposed last year. <br /> <br />4) We don't believe the town should make changes that dramatically affect a person's home or cost that person financially without giving full consideration to the issue. The 130D site is of key concern because some people purchased homes in the Estates well before 130D came into being for COAH development. We believe we have to balance the financial aspects of development with the impact on the neighborhood especially if we end up having to find sites for 269 new homes. That is why we do want to go slow and not over develop the area. That is why we don't want an open Ryan Rd. <br /> <br />5) Spending is a key concern for us. We hope we got the message across that we need to be proactive in review. We will weigh decisions carefully and explore all avenues before we add a cost to our residents. I know I don't want to pay more than is necessary in taxes or fees and I think others feel the same way. <br /> <br />Lastly, Dan and I have been running a campaign together because we share many of the same strategic ideas.
