Since the program's inception in 2005, Rally to Rescue and its ambassadors have successfully found homes for more than 225,000 animals. Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about pet rescue and to adopt dogs from local organizations at the Aug. 15 event. In addition, guests will receive training tips from trainer Melissa Heeter and her rescue dog, Viola. Heeter will provide customized training techniques based on the different personalities of rescued pets. Pet owners will be able to use the techniques at home with their own pets. Individuals adopting a pet will receive an adoption kit to help them care for the new pet. Rally Across America is part of a larger campaign known as Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue. The effort is designed to raise funds and awareness for pet-rescue organizations nationwide via local adoption events and the sale of "Doing More for Pets" Tshirts. In addition to being sold by local organizations, items are available for purchase at www.rallytorescue.org. Online sales help Rally to Rescue to aid participating rescue organizations.
