I'm glad this discussion has started again, but please explain why you think someone was lying, exaggerating or is warped? I think you people don't realize what you are looking at. That house IS completely out of scale with the surrounding historic district. It sits back and up from the house next door, it is just way too big, and even worse it is a new house right in the middle of a National Historic District. It's like now they are the most important thing in town. So yea let's wait and see what it looks like in the end, but what if we don't like it? Do you all honestly think a Lietke Drive house is appropriate there? You are probably all real estate agents. In my opinion HPC and zoning have completely failed the town. BTW I am entitled to my opinion just as all of you are.
Your entitled to your opinion. But the person who characterized it as a McMansion was fear mongering since it clearly isn’t and the person who said it was larger than everything else on Main Street was factually incorrect. I have no idea what it will look like finished and whether it will fit. But I can see its scale and see that those statements about it were not correct. You also seem to have quite a bias against it with your statements implying that the builders must think they are the most important thing in town. When I walk up and down Main Street I see all kinds of houses of various styles and eras of construction, some tiny, some multi-family, some very old and some from this century, and some larger than this one. That said, I wouldn’t have supported tearing down a usable house to put up a new one in the historic district. But I don’t have a problem with replacing an asphalt parking lot with a house where there historically use to be one. The parking lot was hardly a historic site in that condition.
Post subject: Re: House on bank lot
One very positive thing is that this house is being built at a very rapid rate because of the experience of the owners. This is very positive and will cause a disruption for a minimum amount of time. My guess is in a few months a visitor to town won't even notice its a new house and we will all move on to another subject. I hope after the "Dust settles" the nay sayers will come around to peaceful acceptance of their new neighbor.

Many of you town people must have led a very boring life before this house was started. Now at least you all have something to do, sit at home on your computers and complain about every little detail you can find to complain about. The plans were approved and they have every right to build the house. Its not going to be an eyesore. It's just as big as the other houses around town and it's not a white trash family moving in. The house will be beautiful and well kept and be a beautiful addition to our town.
In fairness I would say a majority of the posts are defending and supporting the house. There is likely exactly one unhappy poster here trashing it.

Why did the PB allow it if there was never any parking? That would never happen anywhere else.

OK Mr. Smug wine drinking Main St. guy, you just refuse to understand what is being discussed here. Parking is not the issue right now and "was not written about", it is the blatant disregard of our town and streetscape by people who have millions of dollars who think they can just move in and tell us what they are going to do, and then our HPC and zoning say oh yes, you are more important than all of the hard work that volunteers have put in to protect our town from people like you.

The dentist owned the whole property where his drive and lot is located. I attended the PB meetings and at no time was sharing of the lot discussed nor could it have been since the PB cannot tell one property owner to share their land with another.

Maplewood Ave guy should have been this vocal when the Blue Rooster went to the planning board for approval. A new restaurant with no parking is rediculous. Goodbye parking on Main and Scott.
The Blue Rooster was supposed to share parking with its neighbor behind their two buildings.

The label "House on bank lot" is as incorrect as some of the second guessing of the posters.
Thank goodness, there is no ugly "bank lot." PNC left Main Street some time ago to set up digs on Route 130 which is less conventiently located.
The questions posed by some folks at partial stages of completion of the building reflect a bias against the project. It appears that nothing built at that location would satisfy the nay sayers.
Look back in time at the beautiful homes that were torn down to make a parking lot!!!!
Anything is better than colonial blacktop.
And what makes you feel so strongly and defensive about this house? Not just "anything" is better than a parking lot, at least the parking lot was not intrusive, and it was useful. Stand in the lot behind the house and look down the side of it at the juxtaposition of the tiny Main St. house across the street, and then tell us again that you think it fits perfectly in our town.

Agreed. I do see where from the side view it can look a bit like one of the Liedtke homes in scale. I suspect they will plant a bunch of trees on that side after it's done to block it from the driveway once they mature and eventually you'll barely perceive the house from the side.
