This thread is going nowhere. I suggest, in honor of Memorial Day, that we put the bickering aside and simply relax and enjoy life in Cranbury.

Those who find the NYT to be the mouthpiece of the "progressives", strong advocates of wealth distribution, are more likely to find my post funny. Those who don't are more likely to get aggravated. I take your aggravation as a compliment. Bring on your anger, silly man!

You still don't get it you aren't funny. Political beliefs don't matter. To do satire you need to be funny. There are hilarious satires on the NYT. This is just sad.
I am laughing at you tryong to convince yoursel you are being honest about your true feelings. Just admit it, your pinko politics won't allow you to chuckle at someone poking fun at your ideals! Keep stewing, angry lad, keep stewing!

Wow, now you're referring to yourself in the third person. I hope you aren't local because I think the previous jokes about being of your meds wasn't a joke after all and I wouldn't want you hanging out nere my kids.
Actually, I roam the streets of Cranbury looking for proggressives and their children to scare the daylights out of them with stories of self-made millionaires exploiting tax loopholes. Its quite fun!

Exactly. It's like some super elaborate joke where there is a huge setup for a punch line then you get to the end and say, "where's the punch line?"
It's fine to not be funny. It's just sad someone thought it was worth the time to type something so dumb. It would have been easier to just make their point before it got lost in their attempt at humor.

New York, NY- Citing a "moral obligation to provide information to people of all means", the New York Times today announced a new income-based circulation pricing model. Starting July 4th, the new tiered pricing model for the New York Times will be as follows...
For zips codes with an average household income range of:
$0-$75,000- free
$75,001- $150,000- regular price
$150,001- $999,000- 50% surcharge
$1,000,000+- 100% surcharge
When asked how the changes are expected to impact ciculation, new CMO Libby Raulle said, "Its going to be great! We've been looking for ways to diversify our readership and we don't think it is at all condescending to suggest that the only way to accomplish this goal is to give our product for free to poor people. Plus, its about time our wealthy readers started paying their fair share of the true costs of delivering the high quality of information to which all people are entitled."
When asked if she expected any of the Times' wealthier readers to cancel their subscriptions in favor of competing information sources, she said, "Sure, we may lose a small percentage of wealthy subscribers, but we don't anticpate significant push back. In this day and age, millionaires are accustomed to paying more for high quality services. Furthermore, if we do lose a significant number of wealthy readers, we'll just raise rates on the ones we have left."
When asked about the fairness of using average HH income by zip code to determine prices, Miss Raulle directed questions to NY Times Community Outreach Director, Noddy La Pointe. Miss La Pointe stated, "Poor people have a right to the same quality of information as everyone else. People who live in rich zip codes have the means and a moral obligation to fund equal information for everyone. This is about informing our young people. Its for the children!"
How dare you poke fun at the hypocrisy of the New York Times! We can't possibly practice what we preach. Now I am obligated to hurt lame insults at you and call your opinion stupid!
Oh now I get it! You were poking fun at the hypocrisy of NYT. Unfortunately, it missed and was poorly done. It is not poking fun at the NYT that I object to, it was your lack of humor and basically missing the mark.
I realize you find yourself hilarious and biting in your social commentary. I must warn you Humor is a dangerous game and can often end in the kind of car accident seen here.
First your scenario must either be believable at first blush or so wildly out of this world to be funny just for the thought. Yours unfortunately lands in the middle ground, neither believable or fantastic. While most good humor has a mean spirited jab at its core, yours is only mean spirited lacking the finesse or whimsy to make it worthwhile. It just reads like a right wing rant.
Now for my personal attack on you. If you are going to try to right satire, you must be ready to take criticism. Your satire missed the mark. Deal with it.
I'll agree your criticism raises fair pointsm I thought the idea of a newspaper basing subscription fees on average HH income by zip code would fall into the "wildly out of this world" bucket, but apparently I misjudged. In fact, one of our local Times employees may be reading this thinking "hey, that's a good idea!" Now that would be funny!
Again, you are trying to defend this from a political point of view. Forget the politics, right , left or center, it ain't funny!

It raises fair points? Really? It's not wildly unbelievabel? Are you sure your not the original poster trying to save face?
Let me see if I can try and make this stretch. I am supposed to understand that this is some satire on political policies that favor economic wealth re-distribution. And I am supposed to get the joke that somehow the New York Times is in favor of all such policies so it's funny to imagine a subscription policy based on that theory? Ha ha.
The problem is that is so random since the New York Times doesn't have any particularly strong association with wealth redistribution policies. In fact, their readership tends to be wealthy and their editorial direction often opposes such policies, though not particularly more or less than other major papers.
So it's like doing a satire on, say, the war in Afghanistan, and randomly basing it on, say, Disneyland and expecting it to make any sense. Random. And therefore crazy.
So you understand me perfectly, but yet I am crazy? Perhaps. Perhaps crazy like a fox!

Ctually, it sounds like you have no difficulting understanding the original poster. Rather you are feigning misunderstanding as a platform for posting obnoxious comments because you disagree (either politicallyn or as it relates to the Times). That is your right, but that does not mean you're right. It just makes you another in a long line of annoying anonymous posters.
