Post subject: Re: New Library Hours
The issue is not so much whether our library can afford more convenient hours, it's an issue of how the library chooses to allocate the hours it can afford. As the library board has chosen to cut hours over the years, they have chosen to eliminate hours on nights and weekends. These times are most convenient for working adults and for school kids who use the library when school is not in session.
At the same time, the library board continues to raise the issue of school security as a reason to build a separate library building.
Why not simply reallocate the library hours we can afford to minimize common hours with the school and offer more convenient library hours to the community?

What is the budget for those libraries? Are weekday hours similar?
If open Sunday and wages are 700k then it's not a great argument. However, if the same hours and they offer Sunday hours and wages are less then it is a great argument to use.

Post subject: New Library Hours
In the past, the library minimized conflicts with the school. In recent years, the library has amplified conflicts with the school as part of its case for building a new building. As an example, as the library has cut operational hours in recent years, the hours have been cut at times when the school is closed... Evenings, weekends, summer, holidays. What if the library simply changed their hours to minimize conflict with the school and provide better service to Cranbury's working adults and to the kids who need access to the library after school hours?
Wouldn't this actually make more sense?
