This article is very well written.
As parents we want what is best for our children, but at what cost.
Kids used to be able to go home at 3pm and other than homework have a separate life from school. Now with social media there is no escape. If there was a bully at school it stoped at 3pm. That bully now follows on facebook and other sites.
Parents used to understand kids needed outlets. That putting immense pressure ala Tiger Mom was no good. Yes, kids needed to be emcouraged to study and disciined. However, there was no Kumon. If people did not like public schools they went private.
I coached sports tge last few years outside of school. Some of the kids who showed up were never focused on anything except academics. Their social skills were limited. Many were there because the parent saw an issue that they needed to be more rounded. Others were there because parents relented.
These unfortunate kids were behind the learning curve. Yet, when they did not get as much playing time their parents not them complained. One kid apologized saying he knew he had to learn, but his dad did not accept he was not as good yet.
I moved to Cranbury to avoid WWP and the pressure. If my children get a 90% i am happy, not asking about the other 10%.
