CRANBURY — The Christie administration approved $270 million in facilities grants to schools throughout the state last week, including $1.2 million for Cranbury Elementary School. Cranbury Elementary School, home to the town’s K-8 students, is eligible for about $1.2 million in state funds to finance part of four maintenance projects, totaling about $3 million, but must come up with the other $1.8 million it needs before the state will release the funds. Cranbury School Business Administrator Joyce Picariello said the Board of Education does not anticipate the cost will exceed what it has set aside in the district budget. ”The district hopes at this time to be able to address them within the scope of the budget without a referendum,” she said of the “health- and safety-driven” projects. The projects include exterior door and window replacement in the original portion of the school that was built in 1967; parking lot repairs; a traffic study to determine whether to redirect traffic onto Main Street; a boiler replacement; and electrical upgrades to accommodate modern technology. The exact cost of all these will be $3,046,120 of which the state has approved $1,218,448. http://centraljersey.com/articles/2010/08/06/cranbury_press/news/doc4c5afd23d7619693090144.txt
Maybe, now, we can build some storage space instead of having A/V monitors and various and sundry other items clogging up the hallways.
