Is it true, are they finally knocking down that ugly property on the corner of south main and OTR to put up that strip mall?
I see al the construction material piled up.
What stores are set to go in? |

You are joking I hope? Hooters, Tattoo shop?????
I am hoping for a convenience store. I do not care what else goes in but we definitely need a convenience store.
I wonder how many store will go in. That area could accomadate a decent amount. I am glad the town finally is allowing some new business in the downtown area. It is about time ! |

Yes that poster is joking.
There hasn't been anything before the PB or Zoning board so this may be related to the Old Trenton Rd. work. There is nothing planned for that site today. |

We can really use a Gentleman's Club at the South Main Street location. |

Stores at that spot would be so out of character to the other side of the street that has nice homes. Anyway there's a convenience store just 2 more minutes further down the street, 137 Old Cranbury Road. It would be silly to have another one so nearby. |

Wow, what do you live nearby or are you one of the PB/ZB members that would rather hang then allow any new business in town?
This shopping center would be made to look like it would fit in, you can bet on that unless the Witts own this property also.
Also yes the Crocadeli is just up the road, but I want a convenience store in town. Maybe Manny can move 2 minutes down the road and right into Cranbury. |

I don't live near that property and would love a convenience store like the old deli or Cumberland farms that was here. I miss the old Hagerty's Florist to be honest. If they could do it so it mirrored the village center with individual stores and perhaps apartments above I think it would be nice and they could build it so as look like Main St just extended naturally. I would not want a strip mall like crockadeli's as that design would not fit. |

I agree with everything you say. However, one quick glance at the sweetwater board will show you how this would work out. Over the past year many posters have complained that the town boards and committees are a hindrance to business. I respectfully submit they are wrong. The townspeople are a hindrance to business. |

That's kind of expected, because the majority of the houses on the Main St. are for residential use not commercial. If having a successful business means more strangers in my neighborhood and less parking, then the residential owners will oppose the change. Unless the majority of businesses are so successful that businessmen line up to buy the residential houses and convert them, which is not going to happen. |

I would say its the townspeople in this town that have kept it so desirable and quaint, because we dont want a cookie cutter approach and overbuilding is why we all have strong opinions about what gets built around here. Especially near town. Now I would also argue that the TC and HPAC have sometimes missed opportunities to make Cranbury even better (i.e. Sr Housing on Old Trenton Rd is cookie cutter and desnt fit well in the master design very well and potentially 130D site also) But overall its been the townspeople that have stood up in TC meetings along with the TC members to do the right thing and keep Cranbury from loosing its character, or should I say loosing tooo much of its character over time. And yes its is a fight against business, special interests and politics but HPAC has tried to do a good job to balance History.vs.Business battle that continually happens here.
And I think most townspeople would like to keep the character of Cranbury Main street quaint, by building something that balances the other side of the street on South Main. Wouldnt it be great to finally fix south main street to look as good as north main? It would make living in the Village even more desirable and have more people visiting the current businesses and more folks walking the streets south of the lake. That would be a nice improvement over the warehouses that exist today. Anyone know what the zoning is for the parcel, is it for homes only? since the prior business was a florist and farm land before that - so always an agricultural business in that spot but dont think any other florist will move into there, but the lots look big enough to have homes of similar size like across the street. Anyone know what's going on in South Main florist? |

Too many NIMBYs in Cranbury.
They want the town frozen in time...........circa 1946!!!!!!!!!
Even if they did build some stores that fit in with the way the town already looks, it wouldn't work. Too many old timers don't want any changes. |
