The NWS has raised the predicted rain totals for the next 24hours... now they are estimating up to 2.5 inches of rain. I hope Brainerd lake is being drained.

It looks like they had already drained it quite a bit as of 10:30 this morning.

That would be really stupid to drain the lake with only 2.5 inches of rain. If they keep draining the lake there won't be any fish left in the lake. I like to take my son fishing on the lake but if there aren't any fish left I guess I will have to go to mercer county lake.

I agree, the fishing has been very poor in the lake. I do believe that it's because of the lake being drained so often. They actually are not permitted to drain the lake past 1 foot unless thy obtain permits from the state of New Jersey. The state does not offer a standing permit for that action and I have a hard time believing they obtain a permit every time the town drains the lake. There really is no need to drain it at all unless it's for the yearly maintenance for bulkheads along the lake. For those of you who will comment about the houses that flood due to the lake.......... move. There is no need to live in a house that floods everytime it rains.

This is a very strong statement. I say they should just let the dam break and make it into a stream like it was years ago. that way its historically correct. How about that?

I'm not convinced this isn't a joke post but since you wrote it dead-pan, I would say good luck with that opinion of yours. I doubt you'll find much support for it locally. I guess perhaps you should move if you want a closer fishing hole.

You can always fish in the nature sanctuary behind Shadow Oaks, if you can figure out how to get back there. Watch out if you go, some of the neighbors threatened physical violoence if anyone uses the public walkway easements.

I think it would be awsome if the next flood takes out the dam completely and they just put a foot bridge so traffic won't so bad for school traffic. Smile

If you really want to be historically accurate, then we should plant cranberry bogs around the lake again.
