Just had a guy out this past week from RA Nichols plumbing... WOW - will never use them again - The bill was outragous... Almost triple from what I have ever payed a plumber. Just a warning to anyone who calls them - get a price first!!! |

If you are going to bad mouth a local company why don't you say who you are? |

Well, consider that a "tuition" paid to learn the most important question when hiring someone to work for you: how much?
I usually expect to pay $90 just for a plumber to show up and check things out, without fixing anything. Some do offer "free estimates," but you need to be sure about that before they come.
May I ask what kind of job and how much did you pay? |

The RA Nichols post and the Teddys post seem oddly related. One good turn deserves another? |

Agreed. It was a pretty transparent attempt at payback for being named as the customer with the hair in the soup. Notice that the Teddy's post is very specific on facts whereas this one has absolutely no real details at all. It seems like if you are going to complain about costs it would be logical to list specifics. |

I am the person who posted on here about the cost and have no problem sharing details.
Someone came to my home to take out a faucet and replace it with a new one. The total cost was $650. I know plumbers are expensive but that is unreasonable. The faucet cost was $200 and the rest was labour, they were there for only a couple of hours. |

Who are you fooling? If someone is stupid enough to believe this post shame on them. Anyone who is serious about posting a complaint especially about a local business and wants to have any credibility at all would not post it anonymously. Secondly if you are stupid enough to have work done and not know what the cost is prior to it being done then that really puts you in the category of being dim-witted. I am really surprised you know how to turn a computer on, or maybe you had the geek squad come to your house for $500.00 and turn it on for you?
To me I think this is a competitor just trying to bad mouth his competition. |

I don't think so. My speculation is that the poster lives in a million+ home, made a mistake by trusting the plumber too much, and was taken for a ride. |

So what did they quote you for the job? If it was substantially less what was the justification given for the increase after the quote? If it was what you were quoted, why did you use them if they were triple what other plumbers would have charged you? Why didn't you use one of those other plumbers who would have charged a third as much? |

And you're basing this on what exactly? |

I don't use Nichols because I have another one who I trust completely. I don't live in an expensive home, but I used to just call a person to do work when needed and never asked about the cost if it was a small job. Then a local electrician a few years ago warned me not to assume. Some people charge an hourly rate and some charge a per job price that can be a substantially higher cost.
Again, I don't know anything about Nichols. This is just a general warning to be careful even on small jobs. |

The original poster should not be beleived if they post anonymously. I aggree with the above poster beware if you do not get a firm price prior you are the fool. |

It's my speculation, not based on anything, so don't take it as a fact.
I was responding to the poster who also speculated that the original poster was "a competitor just trying to bad mouth his competition." |

I always call for a free estimate on any work that needs to be done!
I will say I have called Nichols and he is very high in prices, its very simple, if you do not believe these posts call him and ask for prices to see for yourself! |

Are you missing the two points here?
1. They are posting anonymously
2. They did not have a firm price PRIOR to the work done, no one is that stupid and if they are the deserve to pay whatever the bill came out to be.
I do not beleive the original poster for both reasons. |

Even an hourly rate plumber will not give a firm cost as they don't know what to expect. Many people including myself have work done without a firm cost. I need a new outlet installed (not replaced) I know the price should be about 150 plus materials based on prior work. A new toiler installation should be about 120.
However, when using someone new you should get an estimate. Many people do not. |
