Good Morning! Has anyone participated in any local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) like Brown Dog or Stults Farm?? We are seriously considering joining one, but would love some feedback. On another note, anyone know what happened to the Cutting Garden??? I loved that place!
Thanks! |

This is the first year for Stults. Based on the information on their website regarding pricing and the products included for full and half shares, I would say it probably isn't one of the better CSA options. We have been shopping at their farm stand and using their "pick your own" fields for years and I know they have great products, but it seems as though I could pick or purchase on my own (rather than going with the CSA prepackaged bag) for less.
I would give them a year or two to work out the kinks. |

This is the second year of the Stults CSA. I found the first year quite good. |

We did the Stults CSA last year as well -- shared a 1/2 bushel (I think that's what they called it) with another family, and it was plenty of produce. This year, they changed things up a bit, and it seems to be significantly more expensive than last year. So we aren't going to do it again. We did find it to be good produce, so no complaints there! |

Thanks for the clarification. Their website seemed to indicate that this was the first year and I didn't really remember seeing anything about it last year. Can you tell me what was changed this year vs. last year? |

If you really want to know you should ask the Stultz'. They are very nice people.
I may be a little off, but I think the differences are: It has gone from one pick up day to three. The season is longer by two or three weeks. They are including strawberries and salad greens this year.
There may be more differences, but that is all I can come up with off the top of my head. |

I've never been a member of Stults or Brown Dog CSA (although I've only heard good things about them), but I participate in the Honey Brook Organic Farm CSA. They are located out of Pennington, but do a Saturday delivery box share to Cranbury. In addition to a big box of veggies, you have picking privileges on their farm for various other fruits, veggies and flowers. I've been happy with them for the past 3 years. |

Does anyone have any more information on Brown Dog CSA in Cranbury? I cannot seem to get a hold of them? My main question is it is organic and is it a good value? Good or bad I would like to know. |

I had heard Brown Dog is not opening this year. Not sure if that is true or not. I do, however, know the farmer was pregnant with her second child last year so if it IS true this could be why.
Brown Dog is/was a transitional organic farm for the produce they grew onsite. Basically that means their soil was going through the "cleansing" process. They also did get fruits and produce from other local farms which were not organic.
Stults, while they have fantastic produce, is not organic.
Honeybrook Farms is organic. As a previous poster mentioned they have box shares delivered to town or onsite pick up in Pennington and now Chesterfield. Pennington is currently sold out but shares are still available for Chesterfield. I have been a member for the past 4 seasons and absolutley love it.
best of luck! |

Spoke with the owner of The Cutting Garden this past week -- she's not opening this year so she can spend more time with her family. |

Hi All,
I just want to put the rumors to rest. Brown Dog Produce CSA is opening for the 2012 growing season. My husband and I did welcome our second child into our family in December. I am really looking forward to this growing season and many more to come. |

I have heard good things about the Brown Dog and everybody loves Stults
we have been Honey Brook Organic Farm members for years, they have a pickup spot right off Main St as mentioned, their produce is gorgeous, organic, good value, and if you make it to the farm you can pick flowers too!!! |
