what the posts above do not take into account for is the fact the zoning board did not rule on law. there is no way if the shaw's took this to an actual court that this decision would be up held it was very clear by the members decisions coments and lack of knowledge of the law. The only attorney on the board Mr Hoffman who knows the law explained very clearly what the ruling should have been. To be clear on the neighbors. There were only two who spoke against and many more for. All the others against were not neighbors. |

Not true on many counts. I was actually surprised that the hired consultant did not side with the zoning officer on the major issue and as far as the attorney they are only there as an advisory capacity and none of us know what happens behind closed doors in advising the Zoning Board. I agree the only person who made any comments in reference to law was John Hoffman who does not have to be a zoning attorney to understand the law. Also wrong on the people who spoke out. Yes it was close but more people spoke out in favor. Most important is that with the exception of 2 neighbors all others in that part of town spoke out in favor. Along the same point just because more people did not come out in favor does not mean they do not support it. Just ask your friends and neighbors if they take their kids to see it. Bottom line with this whole issue is that it should a never have even gone this way it is not a zoning issue. |

Our Family would like to thank the many neighbors who came to help with both setup and take down. We would also like to thank all in Cranbury who came out and supported Christmas Spectacular on Main Street. We are so thankful for the overwhelming show of support we received by not only the vast majority of our neighbors but from residents all over town!
Despite the parking issue and 12 less days than last year we ended up raising almost $6200.00! (Last year was $7000.00) . 100% of this was given to the food bank yesterday. They were so thankful!
Outside of the money this Christmas Display brought joy and peace to so many people.
We look forward to the 2014 Christmas Season!
Thank you from the Shaw Family!!!! |

This town should embrace what the Shaws do. If more people would even attempt to do good in this world we would all be much better off. Shame on anyone (zoning board) who would try to stop something good like this. Six thousand dollars to help people in need that is great way to go Shaws. |

Please go read the transcripts from the zoning meetings before condemning anyone. The zoning board did not try to stop this and, contrary to that "news" clip, they did not consider this a commercial activity. If you care to get involved (as zoning board members as citizens do by volunteering 5-10 hours a month as they try to make their best decisions based on the professional guidance), please at the very least get the facts straight. |

LOL. I'm glad you put "news" in quotes. A real news source would have tried to interview someone from the Township or Zoning Board or one of the many people who appealed to the town to do something about the annual display. They literally took one parties word for it on what the dispute was about. Seems like some people on this site are too.
This thing was much bigger than the Zoning Board or Township Zoning Officer who got caught in the middle. There were two nights of hearings on this with packed rooms full of people on both sides. I had Cranbury friends chewing off my ear about it, many against the display, and people making their case on Facebook, etc. To suggest this was some government body overstepping for no reason than the be spiteful or busybodies is silly. The Township didn't seek out the mess, they had to react to complaints from local citizens. Now you can quibble over whether they interpreted the laws or their mandate correctly, but they didm what their legal advisors recommended and not because they personally had any agenda against it.
Glad it worked out. I enjoy seeing it each year. Of course I don't live near it and didn't have to deal with the traffic and property destruction some people did. |
